Mira Costa’s cheerleading team emerged victorious over the weekend during the Southern California Championship.
The team competed in the Southern California Championship at the Orlando Convention Center over the weekend. All 21 members of the team participated against 35 other teams. Costa placed third in JV Non-Tumbling and first place in Varsity Game Day and Game Day non-tumbling. According to senior Noelle Parker, the team’s hard work paid off.
“Everyone on the team is ecstatic about hitting a perfect routine and they are so excited to see how much more we are going to improve before competing in Florida,” Parker said. “They are so excited to say we qualified for Nationals because our cheer team hasn’t gone in the past 7 years, so we are very proud.”
With this win, the team will compete at Nationals at Disney World in Florida on February 11-12. According to Parker, the team is going to work on all aspects to prepare for this competition.
“We are going to keep the same choreography, but add in more visual and challenging stunts in order to keep up with the competition we are going up against,” Parker said.
