BOOYAH: Get ready for the Novembeard Challenge

Stow your razor. If you’re weird and you use aftershave, throw it away. Put the shaving cream right into the medicine cabinet, and don’t open the door until Dec. 1. Novembeard has arrived.

This is a beautiful time of year, friends. From Nov. 1 until Dec. 1, every male on La Vista gets to feel like a man. This is our chance to shed our nerdy journalisty reputation and become cool.

So we stand before you, stubble a’growing, and write this article in a manly, cool way. We are no longer the kids who get more excited about Scholar Quiz than we do about the Super Bowl, we promise. We have beards.

Okay, here we go. Write about manly stuff. We can still be funny without worrying about AP Style errors. We can.
Continuing with our normal style, we have come up with yet another brilliant change for Mira Costa’s campus, and this time we can do it without insulting the band kids.

Let BOOYAH be the first to announce the 2010 La Vista Novembeard Challenge. Forget Scholar Quiz; this is going to be huge.

This challenge is a bit like the photo contest we hold every year, actually. The La Vista Novembeard Challenge asks you to document the awesome progression of your Novembeard by taking a picture of yourself and sending it to us on Facebook.

We will then choose a winner, who may or may not get some type of reward from us. We were thinking along the lines of a high five. Or maybe putting you into the BOOYAH picture.

But it is not only beard time. It is playoff time as well. You may assume we’re here to ask you to grow beards for our Mustang football team. That is not the case, however, because there is another team that we want to charge through CIF.
It is time to cast aside your helmet and shoulder pads, don a collared shirt, and clap quietly. Put on your best visor. It is time for girls golf playoff beards.

Mira Costa’s freshman girls golfer Megan Kim is having an amazing season, and we need to show her some love. Any expression of support for our lady golfers that you can show in your Novembeard Challenge submissions will be factored into our decision of the winner.

So go forth and grow! Let the 2010 La Vista Novembeard Challenge begin.
