The Mira Costa Alumni Association and MBX, sponsored by Kinecta, held Mira Costa’s first Costapalooza on Oct. 28 in the Mustang Mall.
The music festival was free to all attendees and showcased four bands, such as Costa Principal Ben Dale’s band, Truckstop, and several Costa students, such as senior Jane Fishman’s band, Tub. There was also a live DJ, food trucks, games, photo booths, and a raffle.
“It was a really fun, spirited event for the students and community to listen to some good music and win awesome prizes,” Mira Costa Alumni Association Board Member Kim Castner said.

The event featured several entertainment booths and activities, such as the South Bay Boardriders mechanical surfboard. Attendees also purchased raffle tickets to win prizes such as gift cards and Coachella tickets.
“My favorite booth was the South Bay Boardriders [booth] because they handed out free shirts and had a mechanical surfboard to ride which attracted the attention of many [people] around,” junior Chasen Ozawa said. “The raffle also had great prizes.”
The Alumni Association and MBX organized several food options to purchase such as Kona Ice, a shaved ice company and The Grilled Cheese Truck.
“We worked to hire several food places so we could have a bunch of fun options for food and treats,” Castner said.
The event was also aimed at spreading awareness about Measure C and EE, both aimed at improving MBUSD schools.
“There were many adults that attended so we had some booths for Measure C and Measure EE which played videos and shared information about why our community must vote to pass them,” ASB member and Costapalooza representative Rebecca Rawson said. “It was a great way to get more adults to vote by sharing with them that our schools need these improvements.”

Costapalooza was an overall success and may become an annual event, Castner said. According to Castner, next time MBX and Mira Costa Alumni Association hope to see a bigger turnout of students.
“I was glad to see that many community members attended but I wish there had been more students because it was a very fun event,” Castner said. “If we make this a typical event, I hope more students take advantage of all the great music and activities.”
