The stART program is an art program that the Manhattan Beach Unified School District and the Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department’s Cultural Arts Division created for advanced high school students.
It meets once a week on Fridays and is geared towards letting students express their inner creativity and gain studio execution with the professional influence of local artists.
According to the director of the program Nina Castro, the artists that visit the students depend on the artistic preference of the students, and the program is meant primarily for development.
“The program is designed to help students develop a studio practice by exploring technical, conceptual and visual strategies,” Castro said. “Critiques and individual meetings increase students’ knowledge in the complex concepts of art.”
