Last set. Last hit. Last block. Costa’s season comes to an end.
Mira Costa’s girls volleyball team lost to Torrey Pines High School 3-1 in an away state playoff game on Thursday. According to the parent Jen Bommer, the whole team contributed and gave a great effort.
“Our hitting was really good and we were able to shut down their best hitter in the first match,” sophomore middle blocker Memphis Glasgow said. “We could’ve blocked a little better in the rest of the games because it made it harder for our defense to dig.”
Costa won the first game 25- 20. According to Jen Bommer, the game was close and both teams had a lot of energy. The team’s overall momentum caused them to win the first match.
“We played well and fought really hard,” junior setter Lily Snyder said.
The Mustangs lost the second game 25-22. The game consisted of a lot of long rallies and Torrey Pines was able to take the lead 8-7 and ultimately won the second match.
“I think we really fought well together when we were down and we kept fighting for each other,” sophomore outside hitter Sami Underwood said.
Costa lost the third game 25-22. The Mustangs were ahead 20-17 before Torrey Pines High School came back with momentum in the end causing them to lose the third game.
“In order to win that game we would have to improve on playing as a team instead of individuals,” Snyder said.
The Mustangs lost the final game 27-25, losing the whole match. Costa was able to catch up the Torrey Pines in the end, causing Torrey Pines to have to win by two points.
“I think we could still work on having more communication on the court,” Underwood said.
Costa girls volleyball ended their season 30-10 overall and 10-0 in Bay League after losing the State playoff game. According to Snyder, the team worked the hardest they could this season to be the best they could be.
“We definitely want to continue to grow as a team and take it as far as we did this year, next year,” Underwood said.
