Mira Costa’s girls basketball team beat Bishop Montgomery High School, 39-33,  in the Battle At The Beach Tournament at Redondo Union on Wednesday. The game was really close until Costa’s energy eventually overpowered Bishop’s.

Costa started off strong, pushing ahead by the end of the first quarter. During the second quarter, both teams were neck and neck, but Costa came out on top. Costa’s aggressive offense and defense made it difficult for Bishop to score in the third quarter. Bishop was unable to catch up in the fourth quarter and Costa ultimately won the game, 39-33.

“I think we played good,” said sophomore small forward Nicole Matsumoto. “It was nice having Halle [Maeda] and Allie [Navarette] back. We are going to practice really hard tomorrow and get ready to play North High School!”

Costa’s overall record is now 1-1. The Mustangs will play their third game of the Battle At The Beach Tournament on Friday at Redondo Union High School, against North High School.

“Our team ran a lot of successful plays and we hustled a lot for loose balls and made free throws when the game was close,” said senior Allie Navarette. “Next game we need to work more on help defense and less turnovers when breaking the press.”
