Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated Hawthorne High School 74-43 in an away game during the El Segundo Tournament on Monday. The top player was senior point guard Brandon Chan with nine points.
Costa started off slow, ending the first quarter 19-18 with them only one point ahead. The Mustangs ended the first half 39-20. Costa had a large lead by the end of the game, ending with scores of 74-43.
“We got into the paint more and more and made plays for each other,” Chan said.
The Mustangs, now 3-2 overall, next play Saint Francis High School during the El Segundo Tournament at home on Tuesday. According to Chan, tomorrow will be a good test for the team since they will be exposed to different styles of play.
“If we bring the energy on every play and execute, we will be fine tomorrow,” Chan said.
