Mira Costa’s boys basketball team fell to Saint Francis High School 67-70 in an away game during the El Segundo Tournament on Tuesday. The top player was senior power forward Cameron Steen with 17 points.
Costa was down 12-20 by the end of the first half and continued to fall behind by the end of the first half. The Mustangs were able to catch back up to Saint Francis by the end of the second half, evening out the score to 62-62. The game went into overtime and the Mustangs ultimately lost the game 67-70.
“We played defense really well down the stretch and we were able to break down their defense very well to make a great comeback,” junior guard Owen Pugnale said.
The Mustangs, now 3-3 overall, next play Price High School during the El Segundo Tournament in an away game on Thursday. According to junior point guard Tommy Waller, the team is looking forward to the next game, since they showed what they could do in this game.
“Next game will go great because we will use this last game as motivation to come out with confidence and play hard,” Pugnale said.
