Costa’s girls soccer team defeated Lawndale High School 6-0 away on Wednesday as they were led by senior outside midfielder Allison Roth who was able to find the back of the net three times.
Despite Roth’s contribution to the goal category, there was still room for scoring as the Mustangs were leading by 4 goals at the half. Goals from sophomore midfielder Ava Vanthof and junior midfielder Nicole Westbrook padded their lead. Roth believes the team played great and did a great job of keeping possession.
“Fortunately we were able to keep the ball for a majority of the time and finally start to play as a team this year,” Roth said. “Everyone played very hard and I feel like this game was a turning point for the beginning of the season.”
The Mustangs, now 3-0-1 overall, will travel to South Torrance High school on Saturday to compete in the annual South Torrance High School Holiday Tournament. Roth says if the team can find a way to carry their momentum from their game today, they shouldn’t have a problem advancing to the deeper rounds.
“I’m excited to play in this tournament again,” Roth said. “It’s always been a good test to see what level we are currently playing at in the beginning of the year, and it also gives us a chance to play some competitive teams we wouldn’t otherwise see in non-conference or league games.”
