All bark but no bite, “Incarnate” had potential to be an intriguing horror movie, but fails in delivering a quality plot.
“Incarnate” features excellent special effects and an original storyline, but does not deliver quality acting to support the overcomplicated and confusing script. Although the special effects are carried out perfectly, they do not make up for the terrible acting that detracts from scary scenes.
The film “Incarnate” was written by Ronnie Christensen and was produced by the companies Blumhouse Productions and WWE Studios. This IM Global film was directed by Brad Peyton and was released on the Dec. 2nd in the United States.
The plot follows main character Dr. Seth Ember (Aaron Eckhart) when he is hired by the vatican to perform an exorcism on an 11 year old boy by entering the dream world that the demon holds the boy in while it controls him. Dr. Ember has dedicated his life to finding and defeating this demon since it killed his family multiple years prior.
“Incarnate” features an original twist on the popular theme of exorcisms in horror movies, which makes the movie interesting in comparison to other repetitive films. The original plotline of the film is its most redeeming factor since it catches viewers interest.
The special effects and makeup in “Incarnate” are excellent and help distract from the poor performances by the actors. The effects make the story seem more believable since the characters look like they are actually in danger.
The acting in “Incarnate” is horrendous and ruins scenes by making the scary aspects of the film seem cheesy. Sudden pop-outs are the only scary aspect of the film as lines in other scenes delivered awkwardly, making them come off as inorganic and forced.

Unfortunately, this film has a poorly written script with too many story arcs that lead to a cluttered storyline that confuses viewers. With the exception of an interesting twist at the end, the plot is uninteresting, taking away from the desired fear in the film.
“Incarnate” was not directed with attention to detail, so many aspects of the plot do not come together well. The director attempted to cast experienced actors, but tried to pack too much into the plot, leading to a low quality movie that fails to entertain audiences.
The film “Incarnate” worked to create a new and interesting take on horror movies featuring exorcisms, but the director failed to create an enjoyable movie. This film had an interesting premise and high quality special effects but it disappointed due to its over complicated plot and terrible acting.
