Mira Costa’s girls water polo team narrowly defeated Arroyo Grande High School 5-4 on Friday at home with a top performance by sophomore attacker Leigh Lyter.

The Mustangs defense caused turnovers which lead their offense to capitalize on their chances, according to junior attacker Samantha Jordan. Costa also worked together and communicated as a team, leading to their success.

“We played as a team, and everyone worked hard especially on defense,” Jordan said. This gave our offense opportunities to score.”

Costa, now 3-4 overall, will play Esperanza at home on Saturday. According to Jordan, the team needs to have a strong counter attack to be successful.

“To be successful, we need to keep on working hard, and also focus on having a strong counter attack,” Jordan said.
