Mira Costa’s boys soccer team took on Torrance High School on Thursday and came away with their second straight 3-1 victory. Key performances came from senior forward Coleman Weaver and junior forward Kyle Johnson.
Costa was the first one on the scoreboard, as Johnson was able to net a goal past the opposing keeper from a through ball. The Tartars were able to tie the game up before halftime, but Costa was able to score two more goals before the game’s end leading to the 3-1 victory.
“My goal came from the team’s constant pressure on the opponent’s back line,” Johnson said. “I was sent through by a nice through ball and I just needed to do my job and finish off the chance and I was able to execute.”
Costa, now 3-0-1, play Animo Leadership(Inglewood) at Waller stadium in their next matchup on Tuesday. According to Johnson, the team is looking to clean up their mistakes and keep their winning streak going.
“Next game I really look to improve upon holding the ball for a shorter amount of time and distributing it a little more,” Johnson said. “But I was really proud of how much energy we had this game as it continues to be the main factor in our victories.”
