Mira Costa boys rugby traveled to San Diego on Saturday to face Torrey Pines and La Costa Canyon in two friendly tune up matches before their season opener this Friday.

Their friendly match against La Costa Canyon was a tough defensive showdown. The Mustangs held La Costa Canyon to only one score but received a few injuries in the process, causing a bit of a struggle against Torrey Pines.

“We had a lot of guys who got injured so we had a tough time getting going in the second half,” said sophomore Slade Gordon.

The Mustangs first game will take place on Friday. The game will be held at Costa at 7 PM against Servite high school. Despite a few injuries in their scrimmage, the Mustangs are fully prepared for their season opener.

“I think we will be ready to go against Servite, despite a few minor injuries,” said Gordon. “Overall, I’m very excited for the season and I can’t wait to play Servite on Friday.”
