Rock and Roll hall of famers, The Rolling Stones prove they will never be too old to rock, with the release of their new album “Blue and Lonesome.”
The Stones’ new album “Blue and Lonesome” impresses listeners with an abundance of guitar riffs, moody vocals, and creatively executed covers.
The Rolling Stones are an English rock band that formed during the mid-1960s, shortly after The British Invasion. The band includes Mick Jagger on vocals, Keith Richard on lead guitar, Ronnie Wood on rhythm guitar, and Charlie Watts on drums. The band is known for their hit singles such as “Satisfaction” and “Gimme Shelter”.
Their new album “Blue and Lonesome” will be the band’s first studio album since their 2005 release “A Bigger Bang.” The record was produced by funk artist, Don Was and was released on Polydor records.

The most distinct feature of the album is the band’s return to their roots by recording covers of older well known blues artists, such as Willie Dixon and Buddy Johnson. Although there is no original music on the album, listening to interpretation of these classic songs remains enjoyable throughout the entire listen.
Consistently throughout the album Richard’s guitar riffs were rich and powerful, helping standing out over other instruments. Noticeably on the track “Ride On Em Down” the band strayed away from the style of the original recording by putting more emphasis on having heavier and louder guitar progressions throughout the song.
The dynamic line up of classic tracks was a pleasant diversion from the norm of what the band has produced on their more recent albums. Including songs from a plethora of blues legends allowed listeners to understand what music has inspired many of the Rolling Stones’ songs throughout their career.

Another enjoyable aspect of the album is Mick Jagger’s attempt at mimicing these well known blues tracks offers listeners an amusing change in his usual voice. The altered vocals were a delightful surprise and made the album a more unique listening experience.
“Blue and Lonesome” astonishes all fans young and old with a diverse collection of creative covers, rich and satisfying guitar riffs, and a collection of moody vocals.
“Blue and Lonesome” was released on December 2, and is available for streaming through Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services.
