Costa junior Maeve Tomalty plays the double role of a high school student and an actor on Nickelodeon.

Tomalty became interested in acting when she was about 7 years old and decided to move to California to pursue her love for acting. She decided to move to California because there are more opportunities on the West Coast.

“I started acting because I loved it from the beginning,” Tomalty said. “It is pretty much a career of rejection, but when you do get the role it is so amazing. I love every part of it.”

Tomalty grew up in Alabama where she developed a passion for musical theater. She was recruited by an agent when she was a freshman, so she flew out to talk about being signed. The following November after she moved, she booked her first job with Nickelodeon.

“It was a little scary moving to a new state after 8th grade,” Tomalty said. “I knew I would miss my friends, but deep down I felt it was all for the best.”

That November, she was casted on the Nickelodeon show, Henry Danger, as the role of Henry’s girlfriend, Bianca. Bianca has a crazy personality and is always following her superhero boyfriend, Henry.

“My favorite role I have gotten to play would probably be Bianca,” Tomatley said. “She was pretty normal at first but I ended up having a lot of fun with the role because she ended up being the clingy, controlling girlfriend.”

Tomalty skipped six weeks of school  to work on set. In order to catch up on her school work, she had to go to school on set. As a junior, she took the Gesepi Test, which allowed her to work seventeen hours on set.

“It is definitely harder now that I have no time to do my work on the set,” Tomalley said. “I will typically have to work for seventeen hours and then have to come home and do homework which can be very tiring.”

According to Tomalty, acting can get stressful, but it can also lead to amazing things. Being in the industry, she said her favorite part is that she gets to meet a lot of new people that become some of her best friends. Tomalty also has the opportunity to meet several famous actors and actresses in the process.

“One of my favorite parts of acting is meeting lots of interesting people,” Tomatly said. “ It also really crazy to meet that I have people that live in Germany and Asia commenting on my photos.”

According to Tomalty, being on set is busy, but it is fun. She said, she has to be prepared for whatever filming she will be doing on set. It can get really tiring, but there is always someone there to get you what you need in order for you to do your best acting possible.

“One of my favorite parts of being on set is craft services,” Tomalty said. “It’s really amazing to have someone to bring you a water when you’re thirsty or blanket when you’re cold, but you can’t get used to it because it’s just not how reality is.”

Tomalty is planning to go to college after her senior year of high school. She is has not yet decided what college she would want to attend, but she said that if an acting job comes along, she will be willing to take a break from school for a year.

“I love acting, but my family also cares a lot about my education, so currently I am planning to go to college,” Tomalty said. “If I happen to land a job that will take a year to film, I would definitely take a year off of school to broaden my acting career.”
