Exploring new restaurants and types of food is a hobby Mira Costa juniors Maci Vosberg and Brie Hilgers have had since the end of their freshman year.
They have publicized their passion through an Instagram account in order to show their followers places to dine within the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area. Vosberg and Hilgers created the account, @maci_munches, in June of 2015. Vosberg and Hilgers currently have over 200 followers, consisting of fellow students, friends and family.Their account consists of photos of food from various restaurants as well as homemade recipes.
“I eat at places that I want to go to, and if the food looks good then I’ll post it,” Vosberg said. “Brie and I see the account as a fun place to post about the new foods we try and places we go.”
Vosberg says the formation of @maci_munches came from the inspiration of other students’ food accounts on Instagram. Before creating the account, Vosberg and Hilgers had been taking pictures of food, and when she saw
that others were posting their meals and recipes, it sparked the idea to create their own food Instagram account.
“I started @maci_munches because I really enjoyed seeing other people’s food accounts on Instagram,” Vosberg said. “Brie and I love scrolling through the countless pages on Instagram of food accounts and wanted to make our own.”
Both Vosberg and Hilgers spend time going out and exploring new restaurants; however, Hilgers spends more of her time creating her own food and recipes in her kitchen and then posting them on the account. Vosberg and Hilgers both love to explore and find new hidden places to eat and then show their followers
where they went and what they ate, they said.
“I love cooking so much, and I make all my meals,” Hilgers said. “Cooking with good food has become a staple in my life, and I love to share how easy and fun it is to make healthy food that makes me feel good.”
