Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated Laguna Beach High School 49-48 on Friday as part of the Torrey Pines Tournament in San Diego. Senior point guard Brandon Chan and junior shooting guard Morgan Clark helped the team achieve the win.
Costa was able to barely beat Laguna Beach in the championship game 49-48 of the Torrey Pines tournament. According to senior guard Jackson Weaver, the team did a good job pressuring the ball which lead the other team to make more mistakes.
“We keyed in on their best players and followed the game plan,” Chan said. “The game was about perseverance and I think we showed a lot of heart in this game.”
The Mustangs, now 8-6 overall, next play Irvine High School on Sunday at University High School. According to Chan, the team has showed glimpses of the team it can be and the team can continue building on what we accomplished and win the next game.
“We’ll pick up practice this week and work on getting another win,” Weaver said.
