Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated Irvine High School 96-86 on Thursday at University High School in Irvine. The top performances in the game were senior point guard Brandon Chan and senior guard Ryan White.
Costa started the game strong and ended the first quarter up 28-22. The two teams were tied at the end of the first half but Irvine was unable to keep up after that. According to senior guard Jackson Weaver, the team broke the press well and converted the break into easy points.
“We finished at the basket well and we were able to go on runs that were larger than the other teams,” senior power forward Cameron Steen said.
The Mustangs, now 9-6 overall, next play Diamond Ranch High School at Serra High School on Saturday. According to senior forward Jonas Pittman, the team wants to keep their streak before they start league.
“In our next road game we hope to keep our winning streak,” Weaver said.
