Mira Costa’s girls basketball team fell short to Huntington Beach High School 53-45 during the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic on Wednesday. The teams went back and forth throughout the game, but Costa ultimately lost.

Costa started off slow, but began to score more later in the first quarter. During the second quarter, the teams continued to fight, but Huntington took the lead. In the second half, the Oilers’ lead made it difficult for the Mustangs to make a comeback, ending the game 53-45.

“We had a little bit of a rough start, but I thought we played really hard,” junior point guard Kelly Toyooka said. “We had a lot of turnovers tonight, and we crumbled under pressure, but we’re definitely working on that.”

Costa’s overall record is now 7-5, and will next play in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic, against Bishop Manogue.

“We just need to focus on playing the game we are good at, and continue to bond throughout the season,” freshman center Lauren Chao said.
