Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated Morningside High School 64-55 in a home game on Tuesday. The top players were senior forward Jonas Pittman and junior shooting guard Bobby Barkley.
Costa took a short lead of 10-8 in the first quarter, but tied with Morningside 24-24 by the end of the second quarter. The Mustangs came back stronger in the third quarter, taking the lead 49-39. The Monarchs were unable to catch back up, and Costa ultimately won the game 64-55.
“I think we got to the basket a lot and rebounded well and we played really hard,” senior post Jacob Magelby said.
The Mustangs, now 11-8 overall and 1-2 in Bay League, will next play Inglewood High School in an away game on Friday. According to Magelby, it will be a tough game and the team will hopefully pull it out and play physical again.
“They are really big in athletics so we are just hoping to shoot well and get into the gaps,” senior forward Pittman said.
