The plans have been commissioned by the MBUSD. The first phase of the construction project is currently being funded by the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, or MBUSD. The new fields are being made to help provide quality fields for different teams. The first phase of the construction will include constructing security roads, building walls to prevent leakage, relocating utilities, etc. The new field has also been commissioned to improve campus security. MBX is planning on funding the second phase of construction, which will result in the construction of a $2 million turf field. Because of the high cost, there has been a lot of discussion about what would be most beneficial to spend the $2 million on. The new field will become accessible to football, rugby, baseball, lacrosse, and marching band, which will increase the amount of space made available to each Mira Costa team. Many sports teams, girls lacrosse , for example, have had to practice after school instead of sixth period because of limited field space due to the Meadows construction.
