Mira Costa’s girls water polo team placed tenth in the America’s Finest City tournament in San Diego playing against Wilson, San Marcos, Murrieta, and Schurr on Friday and Saturday.
Costa first defeated Wilson 10-5 on Friday. The Mustangs then fell to San Marcos 15-5. On Saturday, Costa defeated Murrieta 5-4 in overtime, and fell shortly to Schurr 8-7. Senior attacker Aminadi Anorve and sophomore attacker Camille Lyter were Costa’s top performers throughout the weekend, scoring plenty of goals.
“I felt that we helped the set really well and communicated,” Lyter said. “However, on Saturday, we struggled on our counterattack, and driving the ball towards the goal.”
Costa, now 9-8 overall will next take on Peninsula on Tuesday in a home Bay League match. According to Lyter, the team needs to work on their counterattack to be successful.
“To be successful, we need to come out ready, and once we cause a turnover, we need to set up a strong counterattack,” Lyter said.
