Mira Costa boys’ water polo pulled out a last-second victory against La Canada on Nov. 12 for the CIF quarterfinals. Costa had won the first match against La Canada, lost the second and then won the last one in front of a huge crowd at the Costa pool.
The Mustangs played from behind throughout the whole game, but managed to stay in the game. They scored two goals to tie the game and, with only four and a half seconds left, a foul set up an opportunity for senior Jake Miller. Miller’s goal made the score 5-4 and won the match for the Mustangs.
The top performers of the game were Miller, who had 2 goals, and senior Dana Tuttle, who kept the Mustangs in the game and had 11 saves.
Mira Costa’s next game will be on Nov. 17 for their CIF semifinal game against Laguna High School in Irvine.
