The Manhattan Beach Unified School District has considered the bidding process for architectural and engineering services pertaining to Measures C and EE.

According to Superintendent Michael Matthews, MBUSD is in the middle of the architect selection process. MBUSD sent out a Request for Proposals for firms to apply for the Gym (Measure EE) and the Classrooms (Measure C).  MBUSD expects to interview and select those firms by late February.

“We are awaiting proposals from the firms that choose to respond and then will go through a review, interview and ultimate selection process,” MBUSD board member Ellen Rosenberg said.

According to MBUSD Board President Jennifer Cochran, there was a scheduled walk through of all the proposed construction sites for any architectural or engineering firms interested in bidding on the project. There will be an initial panel of technical experts who will interview companies who are submitting proposals on Feb. 2. Following that, the finalists will be brought before the board for final selection.

“Some firms may choose to submit proposals for both the gym project and the other school renovations together where some may prefer to bid on just one project or the other,” Cochran said.

According to Cochran, MBUSD has received more than 20 applications for the Bond Oversight Committee. The board appointed a subcommittee of MBUSD board member, Christine Cronin-Hurst, and MBUSD clerk, Karen Komatinsky, who will work with MBUSD Deputy Superintendent, Dr.  Dawnalyn Murakawa Leopard to make the initial selection of committee members. Terms on the committee will be 2 years, so all of the applicants will likely get an opportunity to serve on the committee.

“We have great applicants, and we have to make sure that the committee is diverse and that we have members who meet all of the requirements for a Bond Oversight Committee,” Cochran said.  “For example, we have to have a small business owner in the city and someone who is a member of a tax payer organization, to name a couple.”
