While Costa sophomore Isabelle Schumaker does not have a clear goal of pursuing acting, her recent appearance on a Clean & Clear commercial has more than prepared her for whatever she aims to do.
The commercial that Schumaker made was for a popular self-care brand, Clean & Clear, where she went through a series of auditions to eventually make a commercial that will be aired in the near future without a declared date. The commercial consisted of Schumaker using various skin products and splashing water on her face.
“I was able to use my mom’s connection to originally get a spot on the commercial which was helpful,” Schumaker said. “It was a nice step to know how to get into the commercial but from there it was exciting since it was still fair because I did all the actual auditioning.”

Schumaker originally decided to audition for the the commercial when her mother, a casting director, recommended that she could go try and get a role. After one audition Schumaker was able to receive a callback so after auditioning one more time she officially was offered a spot for the commercial.
“When I got a callback I was incredibly exciting, it was probably the best part of the whole experience,” Schumaker said. “I was not really expecting anything to come of the original audition so when I got the callback it was both surprising but a welcome experience.”
The best part of the experience, according to Schumaker, was the fact that everyone was so welcoming. Her lack of acting experience made it intimidating but she still aimed to make the most out of the experience and meeting the new people, she said.

“The opportunities to be social was so exciting,” Schumaker said. “The people involved were very interesting and meeting all these new people was very rewarding.”
Schumaker’s stage fright and camera shy-ness made the experience more stressful but the camera man helped with her nerves and made sure that she was comfortable with the shot, she said. Additionally, the director made sure to ask her questions so that she was willing to be open and excited about the experience.

“While having stage fright and being camera shy could have ruined the experience I was really grateful for the director and cameraman for helping me be comfortable,” Schumaker said. “The only other thing I would change about the experience is that there was a lack of diversity in the actors and actresses.”
Schumaker never aimed to be an actress when she grew up, and even now, she does not have a large goal for being in the acting business, Schumaker said. Schumaker believes that, while the experience was incredible, she would not film another commercial again.
“I will most likely never film another commercial again,” Schumaker said. “I still really loved the experience and it was interesting being able to see that side of business and what opportunities are out there.”
