Nine Costa athletes signed the National Collegiate Athletic Association document today during lunch, officially committing them to their colleges.
Students committed to schools such as UC Berkeley, Emory University and Babson College for sports including soccer, basketball and softball.
“I’m really happy that it’s finally over and that I finally get to go to my dream school,” Mira Costa senior Christian Thornton said, who signed to play water polo for Claremont McKenna College.
Costa Vice Principal Jon Shaw announced the students who signed, along with a biography of their high school athletic career. The next NCAA signing day will be on April 19.
“I am tremendously proud that we have so many scholar athletes,” Shaw said. “Today is bittersweet for me because I’m sad that they are leaving, but happy for them to start a new chapter in their athletic career.”
Emmie Farber committed to Chapman University for soccer.
Emelie Flaig committed to Cal Poly Pomona for soccer.
Jamie Hoffman committed to Babson College for softball.
Natalie Natole committed to Emory University for track and field.
Lexi Nielsen committed to Sonoma State University for golf.
Laura Sheckter committed to Emory University for basketball.
Christian Thornton committed to Claremont McKenna College for water polo.
Delaney Whittet committed to the University of California San Diego for soccer.
Whitney Davis committed to the University of California Berkeley for soccer.
