The National Honor Society Induction Ceremony honored academically distinguished students by hosting a breakfast on Nov. 18.
The National Honor Society is a national organization that recognizes outstanding high school students who have demonstrated excellence in grade points average, leadership and character.
“Being part of the society sets you apart from some of the other students. It’s nice to see that your hard work is being honored by the school,” junior Michael Diaz said.
The formal ceremony welcomed new members and provided breakfast for the students and their parents. There were 83 students honored that morning, the majority of which were juniors with few seniors.
“The induction ceremony went well. The quartet’s music added to the prestige and the parents were impressed by the formality and sophistication of it all,” junior and NHS Treasurer Marshall Pitman said.
NHS also takes part of community service projects throughout the year.
“This award helps us to develop our leadership skills by participating in community service and other activities. NHS provides us with the opportunity to help others and it recognizes us for our accomplishments,” junior and NHS Vice President Trent Fuji said.
National Honor Society has been an active part of Mira Costa since 2006.
“At every NHS induction ceremony, all of the students sign their names into the registry book. Its really cool to flip through and see the other older members from Costa. NHS will be a strong tradition at Costa for years to come,” senior and NHS President Nick Zobel said.
