Mira Costa’s Associated Student Body and the University of California, Los Angeles held the triannual Blood Drive yesterday in Fisher Gym.
Students, parents and faculty donated approximately 100 pints of blood throughout the day. Before the blood drive, students completed a waiver and were required to be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and have normal iron levels.
“It’s really cool having the [blood] drive right here on campus because most of us students have such busy schedules that it’s hard to go out and donate blood,” sophomore Jamie Lee said. “It makes it easier on us and it’s more fun to be with all of your friends.”
The University of California, Los Angeles Hospital brought in nurses and supplies for the blood drive while ASB members checked students in and wrapped arms of donors.
“We were very satisfied with the turnout and even though it may not seem like a lot, just one person can save up to three lives,” ASB Commissioner of Community Relations Audrey Ahrens said. “That means that just this one blood drive saved 270 lives which is an awesome accomplishment.”
