Mira Costa’s boys basketball team defeated San Marcos High School 70-64 in an away game on Wednesday. The top performers were senior point guard Brandon Chan with 19 points and junior shooting guard Bobby Barkley with 25 points.
Costa and San Marcos switched off dominating the game throughout the game until Costa took the lead 50-47 in the end of the third quarter. According to senior guard Jonas Pittman, San Marcos had a skilled, player that dominated the post but was able to be stopped by Costa’s defense.
“Offensively, we were able to get by them off the dribble and finish around the hoop,” Pittman said.
The Mustangs, now 14-12 overall, will next compete in a CIF game on Friday against Saint Joseph High School at home. According to Chan, if the team comes out with intensity and hit the other team first, the team will be in a great position.
“I think we could do a better job at talking through defenses and helping each other out,” Chan said. “We will repeat that in practice and be fine for the game.”
