Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Edison High School 61-33 on Friday in a home game in their first California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Costa finished the game by scoring 28 points more points than Edison.
Costa started off strong, pushing ahead by the end of the first half. Costa’s aggressive offense and defense made it difficult for Edison to score throughout the second half. Edison was unable to catch up, and Costa won the game 61-33.
“I think our team did well on breaking the press,” senior Allie Navarette said. “We had very few turnovers on it and were able to get the ball past half court a lot.”
Costa is now 21-8 and 9-1 in Bay League, and will play against Valley View High School at Valley View High School on Saturday. Valley View’s overall record is 22-6, and is ranked 75th in the state of California, while Costa is 95th.
“Our strategy is to continue talking to one another and encouraging each other,” Navarette said.
