Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Valley View High School 73-53 on Saturday in a home game in their second California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) game. Costa finished the game by scoring 20 more points than Valley View.
Costa started off strong, pushing ahead by the end of the first half. Costa’s aggressive offense and defense made it difficult for Valley View to score throughout the second half. Valley View was unable to catch up, and Costa won the game 73-53.
“I think our team did well on breaking the press,” senior Allie Navarette said. “We had very few turnovers on it and were able to get the ball past half court a lot.”
Costa is now 22-8 and 9-1 in Bay League, and will play against Martin Luther King High School at King High School on Wednesday. King’s overall record is 27-1, and is ranked 31st in the state of California, while Costa is 95th.
“We just need to focus on playing the game we are good at,” freshman Lauren Chao said.
