Science fiction meets romantic comedy on the landscape of Mars in the film “The Space Between Us.”
“The Space Between Us” has a distinct premise and superb collection of actors that compensate for the atrocious writing that went into the cliche dialogue. Although the script is full of cheesy and predictable lines the actors and special effects work to save the movie from itself.
The film “The Space Between Us” was written by Allen Loeb and was produced by the companies STX Entertainment and Southpaw Entertainment. The film was directed by Peter Chelsom and was released on February 3rd in the United States.

“The Space Between Us” takes place during a mission to colonize Mars and Sarah Elliot (Janet Montgomery) finds out she is pregnant and dies in child birth shortly after reaching Mars. Her son Gardner (Asa Butterfield) survives and is covered up by NASA with his only connections to Earth being movies, the scientists he lives with, and Tulsa (Britt Robertson) a girl he talks to online.

“The Space Between Us” has a creative and original storyline that has an unpredictable twist to catch the viewers off guard towards the end of the film. The premise of the film was enticing due to the unique twist on the genre of romantic comedies that has been overcrowded with redundant films in recent years.
The films special effects are masterfully orchestrated that the viewers could almost feel the G-force on themselves when the rockets take off. The CGI was impeccable making it difficult to tell the difference between the practical effects and CGI.
An experienced collection of actors such as Carla Gugino and Gary Oldman performed major roles in the film and are able to overcome the dry dialogue. The actors portray the emotions and feelings in the film ideally to move the audience with the touching story.
“The Space Between Us” has many locations and was put together exquisitely to come together with impressive cinematography. This film features beautiful sets evoke the gorgeous film quality and displays high attention to detail that went into making this film.
This film was written unsatisfactorily with many of the lines being so blatantly predictable that it makes it difficult to enjoy the film. Although the setting was unique and a super cast the dialogue is corny making the film seem unoriginal and predictable.
This film gives viewers a cheesy romantic comedy formed into science fiction movie that was entertaining with the creative premise being one of its few redeeming factors. The predictable dialogue takes the creative premise and warps it into the unoriginal romantic comedy that the film becomes throughout the storyline.
