Big Sean recently released his newest album “I Decided,” unveiling a sensitive side to the otherwise guarded rapper.

Big Sean is an artist who improves with every listen, every performance and every album and “I Decided” is proof of the singer’s growing success. The album features meaningful lyrics, talented guests artists and a pleasing combination of soulful songs as well as unforgettable rhythms.

“I Decided” is 28-year-old Detroit rapper Big Sean’s fourth studio album. The collection of 14 songs boasts collaborations with Big Sean’s girlfriend and R&B singer Jhene Aiko, as well as rappers including Jeremih, The-Dream, Migos and Eminem.

Big Sean is a well-decorated rapper that has several respectable music awards including the BET Award for Best New Artist and Best Mixtape for his 2015 album “Dark Sky Paradise.” He was also granted numerous other awards for his past albums and singles.

“I Decided” is not the first album in which Big Sean gives listeners a look into his personal life, however, it is perhaps his most confident album yet. The rather intimate lyrics reveal a side of Big Sean that was previously hidden, creating a raw and honest album.

The album is emotional, as the artist raps about his struggle to climb to popularity and how fame changed his life. Through the lyrics, Big Sean reveals struggles with his family, money and personal depression, which allows listeners to connect with the music.

One of the album’s most interesting aspects is its perfectly achieved balance between rap beats and soulful tunes. Even the most catchy and upbeat songs like “Bounce Back” and “Moves” integrate thought-provoking lyrics while still maintaining Big Sean’s signature street-rapper style.

One of Big Sean’s greatest strengths showcased in “I Decided” is his ability to skillfully chose featured artists to complement his vocals. Big Sean is able to sing about emotional subjects, vocalize with R&B artists and also integrate hard verses of rap all together in a single song.

One disappointing aspect of the album is that the songs do not seem to flow into one another. While each song is individually pleasing to listen to, the combination of the 14 tracks is disjointed and incohesive at times.

“I Decided” displays Big Sean’s sensitive side to listeners, making an overall successful album. It features artists that enhance Big Sean’s skills as a rapper by integrating their own unique styles. The album boasts outstanding lyrics and a diverse selection of songs.
