Mira Costa seniors Kip Ambrose, Omar Amed and Nico Brunstein created the band last summer. A couple months later, both senior Dylan Lenze and sophomore Chase Evers have been added to the band to aid in vocals.

“Like most bands, we first started off playing covers for other bands,” Brunstein said. “Now, as we improved, we are trying to expand and have written eleven songs however not all of them are not quite stage ready yet.”

The band’s true inspiration for their is credited to indie pop band 21 Pilots Bruinstein said. According to Brunstein, drummer Ambrose had shown pianist Omed and bass player Brunstein the band to which they instantly fell in love with last summer.

“We would all agree on a song and each of us would do our part to learn the respected instrument,” Brunstein said. “Their music is what really created the bond between us and eventually Dylan as well.”

Before the creation of the band, the band members had been close friends playing music together for fun, but were never serious about it. They soon realized if they were going to spend so much time together they might as well making it meaningful and make a band, Brunstein said.

“I was at Lenze’s house one day working on Mr. Singiser’s homework and my dad asked what I was doing so I told him I was ‘Working on History’” Brunstein said. “I liked how it sounded and what it meant in the context of creating music for other to enjoy so I presented it to the group and it stuck.”

The band has played at a number of events such as the Hometown Fair, Polliwog Park Concerts, Relay for Life and student run organization called In House Arts.

“We first started playing together at In House Arts,” Brunstein said. “However due to everyone’s schedule being packed, especially in the first semester,  it has been difficult to play at other venues.”

As well as public venues, Working on History also participated in the annual talent show, winning first place. The band practice three time before the and competed against 16 other acts and played their original song “Sail On.”

“We thought entering the talent show would be a good opportunity to expose ourselves and get some experience,” lead singer Dylan Lenz said.

The band also has a Youtube channel where they upload many of their songs and covers. The channel has 39 subscribers as of February 8, but has over 600 views on multiple 21 Pilot covers.

“With first semester done, it will be a lot easier for us to play together,” Brunstein said. “We aren’t quite sure when our next performance will be, but we plan on playing in as many as we can before we go off to college.
