Costa set high expectations for itself after winning CIF last year, but on Nov. 19 the team lost 27-17 to the fifth-seeded Moorpark Musketeers in the first round.
“It’s unlucky we had to play them so early,” junior quarterback Christian Rogers said.
Costa began strong with a drive and touchdown by senior running back Deon Morris.
“It was a hard fought game, and our offensive line and fullback played great,” Morris said.
Moorpark had three touchdowns, and Costa’s senior kicker Brendan Sofen tacked on a field goal, making the score 21-10 at the end of the first half. In the second half, the Musketeers kicked a field goal. Soon after,
senior Tajee Mobley ran in a one-yard touchdown, bringing the deficit to one touchdown. However,
Moorpark scored a field goal, ending the game 27-17. Despite the loss, the Mustangs have high hopes for next year.
“It’s going to be tough replacing the seniors, but we’re going to work hard and start getting ready for next year,” Rogers said.
