Manhattan Beach residents will elect three new City Council members and vote on Measure H in the Manhattan Beach City General Municipal Election on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at polling stations within Manhattan Beach.
The candidates running for the three open City Council positions are City Councilmember and municipal attorney Mark Burton, Planning Commissioner and architect Chris Conaway, former City Councilmember and business owner Tony D’Errico, Planning Commissioner and attorney Nancy Hersman, small business owner Richard Montgomery, Los Angeles County Projects Coordinator Steve Napolitano, Strategic Communications Consultant Joseph Ungoco and educator Diane Barkelew Wallace.
Manhattan Beach voters and voters across Los Angeles County will also decide whether or not to approve Measure H, a bond that would raise the sales tax a quarter of a cent and generate about $355 million annually in order to prevent and end homelessness in Los Angeles County. Since it is a tax proposed for a specific purpose, Measure H requires two-thirds of the vote to pass.
“People are fairly happy in Manhattan Beach, but I think that there is always room for improvement,” Hersman said. “I think that our Council can be better in making decisions, and I think they can do a better job collaborating.”
