Mira Costa’s Comedy Sportz team competed against Peninsula in the small theatre yesterday night and won 36-31.
Teams played several different improv games including expert challenge, where players are given a topic and must talk about that topic as if they are an expert on it, and countdown, where members perform a scene in two minutes and then have to repeat the scene in a shortened amount of time.
“My favorite team was Mira Costa not just because they’re our home team but because I honestly think they were the wittiest and most creative group,” match attendee and sophomore Maggie Weller stated. “Each individual brought their different personalities to the table. I also thought that the Costa players were very compatible and they responded well to each other.”
The teams not only participated in the games with each other, but they also interacted with the audience. The referee asked the audience for different topics and allowed them to engage rather than just watch the match, Weller said. After each improv game, the audience clapped for whichever team they thought deserved the points.
“I really loved the part of the match where the audience interacted with the players by asking for their advice on a mock panel,” Weller stated. “It was awesome that we got to engage in the actual game instead of just watching.”
