Mira Costa’s boys tennis team defeated Loyola High School 12-6 on Tuesday at Costa. The top players were singles players; sophomore Kyle Sillman, sophomore Matthew Poh, and junior Evan Fortier.
Costa continued to keep their winning streak alive in the preseason with wins made by many players. In singles, Fortier beat Loyola’s number one player 6-3 and their third best 6-0, but lost his last. Poh won two matches 6-0, 6-0 and lost one 2-6. In doubles, junior Shant Samuelian and freshman Tim Dzhurinskiy won their three matches.
“I think our intensity, along with team chemistry really improved but I think our self belief still has to be improved,” senior Tommy Kendall said. “I truly believe that our younger guys have talent and have put in the time where they can beat anyone if they believe in themselves.”
The Mustangs, now 4-0 overall, will next play Beverly Hills High School on Thursday at Costa.
According to Kendall, if the team believes in themselves and gives it 120% effort, the team will win.
“We have beaten them before, including last year, so I feel that if we compete well we will have a great chance of winning,” Fortier said.
