Mira Costa High School’s Associated Study Body will hold the school’s annual Sadie Hawkins dance on March 25 at the Embassy Suites in El Segundo.
Students from all grades are welcome to attend the dance as either a couple or single individual. It will feature dancing and other activities such as casino games.
“I expect that Sadie’s will be fun and have a lot of dancing and good food at the venue,” Mira Costa sophomore Parker Lynch said. “I’m most excited to see all of the costumes people dress as.”

The theme of this year’s dance is casino theme and the theme slogan is “The Suite Life of Sadie and Hawkins,” a play on words of the television show “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.” The dance will also have a live DJ and dancefloor, casino games, and buffet style food.
“ASB has made all of the arrangements and details for the dance so I’m excited to see how it will all turn out,” ASB member and senior Whitney Davis said.
According to Davis, the main purpose of Sadie Hawkin’s is to give girls a chance to ask someone to be their date. The event is casual and students will dress up in costumes with their dates.
“I think it’s great that girls get an opportunity to attend a dance with a date if they have not had the chance to be asked by someone,” Lynch said. “I’m excited to see if I’ll be asked, since it’s usually the guy’s job to ask someone to the dance.”
According to ASB, several students and teachers have attended the event in the past. This year’s dance is expected to have a good turnout.
“I think ASB does a great job [with] dances, I think they are well attended, and I’m always appreciative about how well our kids act,” Mira Costa principal Dr. Ben Dale said. “[Our students] always look great and act maturely and we generally don’t have any kind of bad behavior.”

The Embassy Suites is a hotel located by the airport in El Segundo. ASB Advisor Lisa Claypoole chose the location because she felt the hotel would fit the theme well, Davis said.
“Sadie’s is held at a different location each year based off of the chosen theme,” Davis said. “[Mrs.] Claypoole saw the venue and it was available at the perfect time. It seemed like a great fit.”
