Costa’s boys volleyball team defeated Santa Barbara High School in five games at Santa Barbara High School on Tuesday. The Mustangs were led by the offensive performance from junior outside hitter Max Cajuste.
The Mustangs lost the first set 25-21, won the following two 25-23 and 25-12, lost the fourth 25-17, and brought it home in the fifth set with a 15-11 scoreline. Cajuste tallied around 15 kills and two blocks in the Mustang’s first game of the season.
“We played well today,” junior outside hitter Bobby Barkley said. “We were able to bounce back from an early deficit and finish the game against a really solid team.”
The Mustangs now 1-0 overall, will play in the “Best of the West” tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Poway High School in San Diego. Barkley says if the team plays like they did on Tuesday, they should go far.
“It’s going to be a very competitive tournament this weekend,” Barkley said. “However, if we can keep our composure, we should be able to be one of the favorite teams in the tournament.”
