Mira Costa boys lacrosse was pushed to the limit once again on Tuesday, but found a way to pull out a second consecutive overtime victory, defeating Santiago 9-8.
The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead, due to strong ball movement and clearing. In the second quarter the Sharks fought back cutting the deficit to 6-5. The rest of the game was a defensive struggle but the Mustangs came out on top.
“Our ball movement and clearing started off very strong in the first half,” said junior midfielder Bailey Delgado. “Unfortunately in the second half, we came out flat and struggled to maintain possession on offense but we rallied in the end to come out with the victory.”
The second straight overtime win pushed the Mustangs overall record to 3-1 on the season. Tomorrow afternoon they will face the 3-0 Santa Monica Vikings at home.
“We struggled for parts of the game but in the end we managed to get the win,” said sophomore attackman Connor Barnes. “Tomorrow we have a tough match against Santa Monica but if we play as a team we should be able to win.”
