Mira Costa’s track and field team placed second in the Delayed Medley Relay and 3rd in three hundred meter hurdles at Nike’s Redondo Invitational at Redondo Union High School on Saturday, the second day of the event.
The Nike Redondo Invitational, is an annual event that spans over two days. This year, the invitational hosted over 50 different schools from all over Southern California.
“Overall Costa did fairly well as we had lots of athletes in the championship heats and great runs by Andrade Nieto and Jayla Herron,” junior Tony Shar said.
The Mustangs, 1-0, will host the Mustang Relays at Mira Costa High School at 2:45 pm. Junior Olivia Vega said that Costa will carry momentum into future meets after placing well despite the fierce competition at Redondo.
“The team as a whole has been doing great and we are improving every day,” Vega said. “Our next two meets will be a challenge, especially Redondo, but I think we are ready to take on these next couple schools,” Vega said.
