Michael was a Project Leader and a Presenter for the Our Beauty Project at Mira Costa on Saturday, March 11th. Mira Costa Junior Katherine Harfouch tells the audience the story of her extended family as well as her own heritage. Harfouch was an integral speaker at the Our Beauty Project at Mira Costa, which was held in the small theatre. Mira Costa Senior Allie Yamato performs a traditional Japanese song to the audience at the Our Beauty Project in the small theatre. Yamato sang the song as a tribute to her Japanese heritage and culture. Mira Costa Senior Merita Lundstrom shares a story of her Mexican heritage along with a symbolic piece of art depicting the life of a Mexican-American girl. Lundstrom used the Our Beauty Project to educate her peers on the difficulties of growing up as a minority in Manhattan Beach. Mira Costa Seniors Jennifer Marer and Asha Berkes sing a song featured in the Cartoon Network show, Steven Universe. Before their rendition of the song, Marer and Berkes spoke of the revolutionary and diversifying aspects of the show.
