“Table 19,” is a decent movie with much room for improvement. It consists of poor humor, weak characters and an improper balance between comedic and dramatic elements. The film was also very predictable and easily lost the audience’s attention.
The cast features hit stars, Anna Kendrick, Lisa Kudrow and Stephen Merchant. The film was directed and written by Jeffrey Blitz and co-written by Jay and Mark Duplass. The film has a run time for one hour and 27 minutes.

“Table 19” follows an ex-maid of honor, Eloise (Anna Kendrick), as she has an internal battle of overcoming feelings for the best man, who dumped her via-text. At the wedding, Eloise was seated at the random table in the the ballroom. Throughout the film, characters seated at the random table reveal their secrets and help each other overcome their conflicts.
“Table 19” lacked authentic comedy. Jokes were drawn out to the point where it became boring and lost the audience’s interest, as the humor felt forced with inappropriate timing or improper content. For example, characters decide to make jokes out of a teen boy’s deceased father, proving the films humor to be distasteful.
The films plot structure was very predictable and messily composed. Although the film had excellent actors, not even they could save the structure. In one scene, a character confessed she had cancer and was to be dead in 8 months while the scene that followed was of Eloise, running with a dog at the beach. Conclusively, the film didn’t flow properly because most scenes were choppy and confusing.
Due to the odd script, the characters fell flat and the script contained a lack of enthrallment and emotion that did not benefit the unrelatable characters. A scene where this stood out was when one particular character has traits of being so observant and intuitive to a point where it became unrealistic.
Poor foreshadowing was found nearly everywhere throughout the film. Nearly every character almost crashes into a cake, that obviously and predictably ends up being completely destroyed later into the film. Due to poor foreshadowing this caused the audience to feel bored and unintrigued.
Although the film was very poorly made it had inspiring scenes such as when Eloise proclaimed her love for another character by screaming from a dock a fair distance away from a boat. This was the only scene that gave the audience emotion, until it was later torn by an old couple fighting.
As a whole “Table 19” was very confusing, lacked humor, contained a boring script and thin characters with a predictable plot.
“Table 19” is rated PG 13 and is available for viewing in theaters across the country.
