From the cliffs of Palos Verdes to the urban jungle Downtown Los Angeles, the Instagram account “GoodSociety” is capturing the lifestyle of people of all walks of life through their posted photos on Instagram.
The account, run by seniors Tommy Doan, Mia Finney, Sky Karasik, Dylan Lenze, and junior Anna Harnataweethong, has been a platform to express their unique styles and love for photography by posting the pictures that they take.

“The cool thing about the Instagram is that it incorporates all of our different styles and we can learn from one another,” Finney said.
The five creators have divided the week up so that each photographer is assigned post a picture on a certain day. For example, Lenze posts Monday while Finney Tuesday, leaving the weekend slots up for grabs to fellow photographers outside the group who use the hashtag #wearegoodsociety.
“The cool thing about the Instagram is that it incorporates all of our different artistic styles of photography,” Finney said. “Also, we can learn from one another, meet new people, and share your art with others.”

Photography has served as a medium for friendship in the group. Prior to its inception, none of the members were really very close with each other, but since they meet weekly, they all have become much closer as a collective group, Harnataweethong says.
“I had never talked to any of them before our first shoot,” Harnataweethong said. “I had a class with Tommy, but he was the one introduced me to Mia, Dylan and Sky so really we just met through photography. Now, we usually hang out almost every weekend even if we’re not shooting.”
Many of the portraits posted on the account simply come from people reaching out to them through their direct message or in person. However, the photographers also photograph more spontaneously through their more abstract photos such as a graffitied payphone or a girl wading in a field of flowers.

“I shoot lifestyle because I’ve always found people really intriguing,” Harnataweethong said. “Also, it showcases all the stories behind the experiences I share with people along with the interaction between person and environment in a creative way.
In terms of the monetary side of the account, most of the photographers have their own work on sale on their private Instagram accounts. If they were to sell photos from their group Instagram, they sure on how they would divide up the money among themselves, Harnataweethong says.
“If I’m shooting on my own such as a product shoot, I will hit up my own models or ask my friends,” Harnataweethong said. “If our collective account was to sell prints, I don’t know how that would work.”
Currently the account has 103 followers as of March 7, but the account was only conceived around one month ago. Finney claims that the whole experience is really about meeting new people and being able to share content with others. The group plans to stay together and keeping producing content for the foreseeable future.
“The coolest part of photography being able to meet new people and share your art with people,” Finney said. “Overall, the main objective of Good Society is a platform that allowed us hang out while doing something we love.”
