Mira Costa’s baseball team played in a double header against El Segundo High School at Marine Park on Thursday. The team won the first game 2-1 with top performances from senior third baseman Matt Beserra and sophomore starting pitcher Christian Bodlovich.
Bodlovich pitched six innings in the first game and allowed only six hits. The defense played really well, according to Bodlovich. In the second game, the Mustangs were tied 1-1 in the third inning when Costa made two runs to gain the lead.
“I’m glad Nathan Nykaza could come up with a big two out hit in the bottom of the 6th to give us a 2-1 lead,” Bodlovich said. “I felt good knowing I had Jesse Storey and James Tullio behind me. Both teams played well and I was glad we came out on top.”
The Mustangs, now 8-3 overall, will play Hart High School at an away game on Saturday. The team will focus on getting big hits when needed and performing better in important situations said Beserra.
“I feel like during the whole second game I stayed pumped up trying to get the same energy into my teammates which kept us into the game through all 7 innings,” Beserra said.
