Mira Costa boys volleyball team swept Peninsula High School on the road on Thursday in three sets, 25-15,25-17, and 25-21. The Mustangs were fueled by a top performance from junior outside hitter Max Cajuste.
Cajuste totalled 14 kills on the night, with four key points coming late in the second set. Cajuste said that the team performed very well throughout the match, keeping their focus and minimizing little mistakes.
“We really came together as a team tonight,” Cajuste said. “We drastically cut down on the amount of mistakes we usually make, while also taking advantage of easy scoring opportunities for ourselves.”
The Mustangs now 6-3 overall and 1-0 in Bay League, will play against Loyola High School in a non-conference game on Friday at the neutral location of UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion Gym. Cajuste says it’s the game the team values most throughout the season and are ready for the rivalry match.
“There’s always a lot of tension in our games against Loyola,” Cajuste said. “It’s probably what we refer to as the biggest game of the year, but as long as we play like we did today, and keep our focus throughout the game, we should be in good shape.”
