Mira Costa’s track and field team placed fourth in the boy’s 1600m run and sixth in the girl’s 800m run at New Balance’s Meet of Champions at Azusa Pacific High School on Saturday. The win was helped by a top performance from sophomore Jim Reynolds.
The Meet of Champions is an annual event that the Mustangs participate in every year. This year, the invitational hosted a multitude of schools from all over Southern California.
“We went out to Lamporini field in Torrance. We came out with around 30 athletes and dominated every event,” junior Tony Shar said. “It was fun to be with the coaches and other team members on Saturday.”
The Mustangs, 2-0, would be competing in the S.B.A.A. Invitational at Cerritos College, however this event was cancelled. The Mustang’s next event will be the Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High School on April 7, at 4:00 pm.
“The team’s morale has been up recently,” junior Nicole Poirier said. “It’s a bummer that our next meet was cancelled, but we are eager to compete at Arcadia High School,” Poirier said.
