Mira Costa’s baseball team lost 7-6 to Palos Verdes in a home game on Friday, with a leading performance from senior third baseman Matt Beserra.
The team started the game with a bang, scoring six runs in the first inning with a 6-0 lead. However, Costa lost its momentum to finish the game and fell behind Palos Verdes.
“We came out firing in the first inning,” senior center fielder CJ Shapiro said. “After that we went flat and Palos Verdes beat us mentally.”
The Mustangs now 9-6 overall will play against Junipero Serra at an away game on Tuesday the 18th. They will need to have less walks and more consistent hitting said Shapiro.
“We came out strong today and with a lot of energy putting up six runs in the first inning,” Beserra said. “We just have to keep the energy going all seven innings and not just in the beginning.”
