By the end of the match, the white team dominated as three time champions with 295 points, while the green team took place as runners up with a total of 150 points.

“I’ve participated in Scholar Quiz for three years now at Costa, and each year my experience has been uniquely challenging,” Kelleher said. “My classmates constantly impress me with their unexpected areas of expertise and their quickness when answering questions.”
This year, teacher volunteers included Mr. Debevec as the reader; Ms. Chen and Mr. Ninnis as the flag judges; Ms. Nielsen and Ms. Wachell as the judges; and Mr. Kofahl who provided all Scholar Quiz questions.
A huge sponsor of the Scholar Quiz at Mira Costa is Study Hut, a local tutoring company owned by Costa Alumni.
“I had tons of fun working together as a team and really enjoyed the friendly competition,” Lu said. “Overall, the atmosphere was pretty exciting and I’m looking forward to competing again next year.”
This is the third time for Team Lu to win in the final round. The all boys team took on Team Lau, the first all female team to compete in the final round.
“Our team didn’t really expect to make it to the finals and we were really surprised by how far we actually made it,” junior and runner up Ella Pachler said. “It was a really great experience and it was a really accomplishing feeling to make history as the first all female team to make it to the finals.”
At the end of the match, the semifinalists were also called up on stage to receive their awards. Semifinalist teams included Team Dumont and Team Heintz.

“More important than knowledge, speed, and intuition is teamwork,” Geller said. “The best teams are the ones that know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and can work together. Without that, we would be nothing.”
